So it's a well-known fact at this point that Samsung is the number one smartphone maker in the world. They have been at the top ever since they Overtook Nokia in 2012 ending Nokia's 14-year reign at the top. So clearly Samsung dominates the mobile industry at an international level.
But there's one market where Samsung falls behind Apple every year, a market where Apple dominates ever since the inception of iPhones and it's the United States of America. It's THE most important market for any smartphone companies because the Unites States is by far the world’s largest market for flagship mobile devices by quite a degree which also makes it the most profitable market for smartphone companies as flagship phones have higher profit margins than a midrange or a budget handset.
With that said, Samsung, for the first time, in over 3 years has able to beat Apple to top the chart in the United States for the most number of smartphones sold in Quarter 3 of this year. According to strategy analytics, Samsung becomes the most popular brand in the US, followed by Apple at number 2 and LG at number 3. Samsung's market share was 33.7% in the US which is an increase of 6.7 percentage points compared to the same period last year, while Apple had a 30.3% market share and LG was at 14.7% in Q3 2020.
The success of Samsung is attributed to strong sales of their Galaxy A series including the Galaxy A51 and A71. And also their recent flagships the GalaxyNote 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Now Apple is expected to take the number 1 spot back in Q4 since iPhone 12's have been released in Q4 but to counter that Samsung is launching the Galaxy S21 earlier this time in January. So, Samsung is again expected to take their top spot back in Q1 next year. In any case, it's going to be a close fight between Samsung and Apple for the top spot in the US from here onwards because Samsung has also released the Galaxy S20 FE in Q4 this year which is doing pretty good according to the latest trends.
So Samsung has just made a better and bigger Galaxy Z Fold 2 for China. Called Samsung W21 it's a golden clad Z Fold 2 with practically the same specs as the Z Fold 2 except the storage size is 512GB in this case vs 256GB on the Z Fold 2 but thing costs $3000, $1000 more than the Z Fold 2. So Samsung is targeting the wealthy people of China with this $3000 handset.
One thing is really confusing is the fact that even though it is practically bigger than the Z Fold 2 but the display size is exactly the same both inside and outside. Also, the bezel size is the same as well so I'm wondering how in the world it's bigger than the Z Fold 2 while also maintaining thesame bezels and same screen size. I don't know what sorcery is this but let me know what do you think? Is paying $1000 more for this device makes sense considering it has identical specs as the Z Fold 2 and a bigger gold-clad body?

One of the coolest bits about Samsung's 2020 flagships is the 120Hz refresh rate of their displays. However, there's a problem with it and it's that you have to choose between 120Hz and QHD rendering as the mode was only available up to Full HD resolution.
But on the Note 20 Ultra, Samsung introduced a dynamic refresh rate display that automatically switches between 1 and 120Hz depending on the app running to maximize battery life. But still, there was no option to use the high refresh rate at maximum resolution. But finally and the Rock says finally that will not be the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. According to our friendly neighborhood Ice Universe, the S21 Ultra will support the combination of 2k or QHD+ and 120Hz refresh rate which most certainly is a step in the right direction in giving consumers the ability to take advantage of their devices' true capabilities.
5nm chipsets are powerful and yet at the sametime are equally power efficient and coupled with the new LTPO display, the Galaxy S21 Ultra users shouldn't have any negative effect of this on the battery life. I mean the main reason for Samsung not enable this feature on the S20 and Note 20 Ultra was to conserve battery but good to know that will not be the case with the S21 Ultra.
With that said, Ross Young has updated his tweet and says that these are now the color variants of the S21 family which suggests that the S21 Ultra will only be offered in black and silver. This sucks, to be honest, the color options on the S20 Ultra were bland and boring andI guess the same is the case with the S21 Ultra. Highly disappointed with these colors to be honest.Anyway, Ice Universe also provided more information about the S21 Ultra.
He says Samsung is still using laser autofocus on the S21 Ultra just like the Note 20 Ultra which is a good thing as it's one of the best out there but it also means Samsung may not use the new ISOCEEL Vizion 33D time of flight sensor we talked about a couple of days ago. Which again would mean we still have no idea about the fifth camera sensor on the S21 Ultra. Hopefully, we'll get to know about it in the
days to come.
Of course with that being said, let me know what do you think about this down in the comments and as always I'll see you tomorrow...Peace out!
